Over the years I learnt (or tried to learn) several languages: from English to Czech, from Danish to Dutch.
I believe that every person struggles in the first place in the understanding of what is her best way to learn a new foreign language. I found my own after some seek and trial and frustrating sessions.
I am fluent in German (C2, DAF certification) and English (C2, TOEFL 109) also thanks to that.
Knowing at least the basics of many languages helps me in creating references and in fashioning mechanisms for my students to learn and have fun at the same time.
APPROACH
I believe that knowing a language means a complex set of abilities, the most important of which are (i) the ability to make yourself understood and (ii) the ability to understand the cultural context where that language is used. Communication is indeed vital and when we communicate, content is king.
Whether you make a mistake or two in the construction of your sentences or phrases, is not going to harm anybody. Mastering a language is only possible via progressive iterations where mistakes are not only possible, rather the only way we move forward.
METHOD
Dialogues, interactions, conversations. We are going to talk, listen and interact when we are together. I am convinced that in a constant reconsideration of meanings and mutual understanding of what Italian is for us, your knowledge progresses and my experience will increase.
What are your interests? What is your motivation to learn Italian? Do you want to understand the Don Giovanni better? Do you need to speak the basisc for the next holiday season in Liguria? Does your company do business with Italy?
We start from there and then zoom in and out and tackle the forms, rules and cultural aspects of the Italian language. We want to have fun along the process and we make sure to adjust the method as soon as we see that something is not right for you.
MODE
I offer both remote classes and in house, face-to-face lessons (the latter since July 2021). I teach both to individual students and to small groups (up to 5).
QUALIFICATIONS
I am Italian native speaker (with a strong Venetian accent) and have completed a master degree in International Relations in an Italian university.
Furthermore, between December 2020 and February 2021 I took a class offered by the Centro Ditals, Università per Stranieri di Siena (link) on how to teach Italian to foreigners.
In summer 2021, I obtained the certification (certificazione in didattica dell’italiano come lingua straniera) and am a fully certified teacher of the Italian language to adults ever since.
